Can I make money in the travel business as a travel agent?
Yes-but it depends if you work in the leisure sector, as an employee, or as an Independent Contractor. As an employee either a base +commission, or simply a salary. If an IC (Independent Contractor) most all the time it will be commission based compensation
 If you work as a corporate agent- these are usually salaried positions and either you work for the agency either at their location, or on- site at the corporate clients’ location.
 
How do I learn about the travel industry?
Internet due diligence, travel sites on the Internet- travel agencies, job boards, travel schools
 
How can I become a travel agent?
Opportunities can be found through marketing companies on line that you can become a part of for a fee. Travel schools, travel agencies that have training programs, airline reservation centers, colleges that provide a travel curriculum

What a Corporate Travel Agent Does:

I process and complete travel requirements (from initial enquiry to file completion) as requested by corporate clients in accordance with their travel policy and relevant Service Level Agreement (SLA).
This covers all aspects of travel including air, accommodation, car hire, insurance, visa, foreign exchange as well as offering and processing alternative forms of transport including but not limited to: rail/bus/ship/limousine/luxury car hire. Organize additional services related to MICE.
Communicate with Key Account Manager on all compliance and performance related issues.
